Verdict Frase.io is the most practical SEO content tool for solo affiliate bloggers. The content brief feature alone — which pulls the top 20 search results and extracts the headings and topics you need to cover — saves 45 minutes of manual research per article. At $15/mo for the Solo plan covering 4 articles monthly, it is accessible for beginners. The AI writing is solid as a drafting aid but won't replace your voice. If you take blogging seriously as a traffic channel, Frase is the tool that closes the gap between what you write and what Google actually wants to rank.

What Frase.io actually is

Frase.io is an SEO content research and writing platform. It connects to Google's search results for any keyword you choose, analyses the top-ranking pages, and builds a structured content brief — a document showing the headings, questions, topics, and word counts needed to compete in that search result.

It also includes an AI writing assistant that generates text inside the same editor. You research, outline, and draft all in one place without switching between Google Docs, SurferSEO, and a separate AI tool.

Frase is used by solo bloggers, content agencies, and SEO teams. Its core differentiator from pure AI writers like Jasper is that it grounds everything in real search data — not just language model probability.

Features deep-dive

Content research (SERP analysis)

Enter any keyword. Frase fetches the top 20 Google results and extracts their word counts, headings, topics, and questions. Shows you the content gap between what you plan to write and what is already ranking.

Content briefs

One-click brief generation: recommended word count, headings to include, PAA questions to answer, and related topics to cover. Export as a Google Doc or work directly in Frase's editor.

Optimisation score

As you write, Frase scores your article against the top 20 results (0–100). The score reflects topic coverage, not keyword density — relevant for 2026's AI-era search algorithms.

AI writing assistant

Generate paragraphs, intros, FAQs, and section starters with AI. Works inside the same editor as your research. Useful for overcoming writer's block, not for generating the whole article.

Question research

Pulls "People Also Ask" and related questions from Google for your keyword. Great source of FAQ content and H3 subheadings that align with real user queries.

Content templates

Pre-built workflows for blog posts, product reviews, pillar pages, and listicles. Each template sets the expected structure, giving beginners a starting scaffold before research fills in the details.

Our experience

Honest opinion

We used Frase to produce 12 affiliate posts over 8 weeks. The content brief feature is exactly as useful as advertised. For a keyword like "best AI tools for affiliate marketing", Frase pulled 20 competitor articles, extracted 47 relevant headings, and surfaced 23 PAA questions in about 90 seconds. Building that brief manually would have taken 45 minutes minimum. The optimisation score felt accurate — articles that scored above 65 before publishing ranked in the top 20 for their target keyword within 30 days in 7 out of 9 cases. What we didn't love: the AI writing quality on Frase is a step below ChatGPT in fluency. It reads competent but mechanical. We used it only for intro drafts and FAQ answers, editing everything before publishing. The Solo plan at $15/mo (4 articles) is too limited if you're publishing weekly. The jump to Basic at $45/mo is steep for a beginner but unavoidable at any real publishing cadence.

The Solo plan is a real product, not a crippled trial — 4 articles/month is enough to test whether Frase improves your rankings before committing to Basic. If you're publishing more than once a week, go straight to Basic.

Frase wins on price by a large margin. Surfer SEO has deeper NLP analysis and is worth the extra cost for high-stakes SEO campaigns. Jasper writes better prose but has no SEO research layer. For affiliate bloggers starting out, Frase at $15/mo is the right first choice.

Frequently asked questions

What does Frase.io do that a normal AI writer doesn't?
Frase combines SEO research with AI writing in one tool. Before writing, it analyses the top 20 Google results for your target keyword and builds a content brief showing which topics, headings, and questions your article needs to cover to rank. A normal AI writer just generates text — Frase generates text grounded in what Google is already rewarding for that specific search.
Is Frase better than Surfer SEO?
They do different things. Frase focuses on the full content workflow — brief creation, AI writing, and optimisation scoring. Surfer SEO is deeper on the optimisation side with its NLP analysis, but costs significantly more ($89/mo vs $15/mo). For solo bloggers and affiliate marketers, Frase is the better entry point.
How many articles can I write per month with Frase?
The Solo plan ($15/mo) covers 4 articles per month. The Basic plan ($45/mo) covers 30 articles. If you produce more than 4 blog posts monthly, Basic is the correct plan. The Pro add-on ($35/mo) adds unlimited AI writing words across any plan.
Does Frase work for affiliate review posts?
Yes — it is particularly effective for review and comparison content. Enter a keyword like "HeyGen review" and Frase pulls the top-ranking articles, extracts their headings and topics, and builds a brief showing what your review needs to cover to compete. This gives you a structural outline in about 3 minutes instead of 45.
Can Frase write the whole article for me?
Frase's AI can generate a full draft, but we recommend using it for outlines, introductions, and section starters rather than full articles. The AI writing quality is decent but not exceptional — it's most valuable as a speed tool combined with your own editing, not as a replacement for original thought.
