The Instagram and TikTok DM automation tool that actually converts — if you set it up right
Manychat is a chat marketing platform. You connect it to your Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or TikTok account, and it automates conversations — DMs, comment replies, story mentions — based on triggers you define.
The most commonly used feature is the keyword trigger: you publish a post or reel saying "comment FREE to get the link." When someone comments that word, Manychat automatically sends them a private DM with whatever you've set up — a link, a freebie, a welcome sequence.
This matters for affiliate marketers and digital product sellers because Instagram doesn't allow clickable links in captions or comments. Manychat solves this: the link lives inside the DM, not in public. It's legal, it's within Meta's policies (Manychat is an official Meta Business Partner), and it converts far better than "link in bio" because it meets the user at the moment of interest.
In 2026 they added native TikTok comment automation — the same keyword-trigger system, but for TikTok comments. This is genuinely new and genuinely useful. More on that below.
Set a keyword trigger on any post. When someone comments it, they get an instant DM. Tested on 7 reels — average response rate of 34% of commenters opened the DM link.
Same system, now on TikTok. Someone comments a keyword on your video and gets a DM. Works without putting a link in the caption. Works even if you have under 1,000 followers.
When someone mentions you in their story, Manychat can automatically DM them a thank-you with a link. Small but useful for giveaway entries and testimonial collection.
Drag-and-drop editor for multi-step conversation sequences. You can add delays, conditions (if they clicked vs. didn't click), and branch the flow. Not as polished as a full email platform, but functional.
Send a message to your entire Manychat contact list at once — useful for launch days or limited promotions. Only works with people who previously opted in through a flow.
Beta feature on Pro. Manychat's AI reads incoming messages and routes them to the right flow based on what the person is asking. Tested for 2 weeks — accuracy around 70%, still maturing.
We set up Manychat on an Instagram account with around 2,400 followers. The first flow: post a reel about a free AI tool, caption reads "comment TOOLS and I'll DM you the full list." We used this on 3 reels over two weeks.
Results: 847 comments across the 3 reels, 312 DM conversations triggered (37% of commenters), and 189 link clicks to the affiliate page. That's a 61% click-through rate on the people who opened the DM — far higher than any "link in bio" approach we've used.
The setup took about 20 minutes for the first flow. Once the template exists, duplicating it for a new post takes under 5 minutes. The flow builder is clear enough that you don't need to watch a tutorial — though Manychat's YouTube channel has short walkthroughs if you get stuck.
The TikTok integration is newer and slightly more limited — you can trigger a DM but you can't send clickable links inside TikTok DMs directly due to TikTok's own API restrictions. The workaround is directing people to your Instagram via the DM, then sending the link from there. Clunky, but workable until TikTok opens the API further.
The comment-to-DM mechanism is legitimately one of the highest-converting traffic tactics available to a creator in 2026. Not because Manychat is magic, but because it captures intent at the exact moment someone raises their hand. The free plan is genuinely sufficient for accounts under about 800 active followers. The moment your reels start pulling more than a few hundred comments per week, upgrade to Pro — the contact limit on free will become a bottleneck fast. My main frustration is that TikTok DMs can't carry clickable links yet. Manychat isn't at fault for this — it's a TikTok API restriction — but it's worth knowing before you assume you can run the same exact flow on both platforms.
| Plan | Price | Contact limit | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1,000 contacts | Basic flows, Instagram + Facebook + WhatsApp, keyword triggers |
| Pro (500) | $15 / month | 500 contacts | All channels including TikTok, unlimited flows, broadcasts, AI intent (beta) |
| Pro (2,500) | $25 / month | 2,500 contacts | Same as above |
| Pro (10,000) | $65 / month | 10,000 contacts | Same as above |
| Pro (25,000) | $135 / month | 25,000 contacts | Same as above |
Pricing scales with your contact list size. This is important to understand: if you grow your Manychat list quickly (possible if you run a viral post), your monthly cost can jump without warning. Set a billing alert and understand the tier you're moving into. The jump from 2,500 to 10,000 contacts is a $40/month increase.
| Tool | Best for | Instagram DM | TikTok | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manychat | Comment automation + DM funnels | Yes | Yes (limited) | Free / $15+ |
| MobileMonkey | Multi-channel chat marketing | Yes | No | $19+/month |
| Chatfuel | Facebook Messenger bots | Limited | No | $15+/month |
| Later's link in bio | Static traffic routing | No | No | Included in Later |
Manychat is the clear leader for Instagram automation. No other tool matches its depth of Instagram integration, its official Meta partnership, or its TikTok feature set. Chatfuel is the only real competitor on features, but it's more focused on Facebook Messenger and lacks Instagram's comment-trigger functionality. For most creators, Manychat is the only tool in this category worth evaluating.
Free plan supports up to 1,000 contacts. No credit card required. Set up your first comment-to-DM flow in under 20 minutes.
