Our verdict Metricool is the best analytics-plus-scheduling tool at under $25/month, and the free plan covers a single creator account remarkably well. Where other tools charge $50–100/month for competitor tracking, Metricool includes it on its $22/month Starter plan. The scheduling works cleanly across Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X. The dashboard gives you more meaningful data than any native social app analytics. If you're serious about understanding what content actually works and want to act on that with a scheduling tool — all in one place — Metricool is the best value we've found.

What Metricool actually is

Metricool is a social media management platform that combines scheduling and analytics in a single dashboard. You connect your social accounts — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and Google Ads — and Metricool shows you performance data from all of them in one place, with scheduling tools to plan and publish posts without switching between apps.

The analytics side is where Metricool genuinely earns its place. Most scheduling tools give you surface-level stats: likes, followers, reach. Metricool goes deeper — <engagement rate by post type, best times to post based on your own historical data, competitor account tracking (how often they post, their engagement trends, their top content), and exportable PDF reports.

The free plan supports 1 brand (one set of social profiles across platforms) and includes scheduling with up to 50 AI-assisted posts per month. This is one of the most generous free tiers in this category — most competitors either severely limit features or require payment from day one. For a solo creator managing one brand on multiple platforms, the free plan can last months before you need to upgrade.

Features we tested

Cross-platform analytics dashboard

All your accounts in one view. Engagement rate, reach, follower growth, top posts, and posting frequency — all visible without switching tabs. We found ourselves checking Metricool instead of native analytics within a week of setup.

Competitor analysis

Add up to 5 competitor Instagram or TikTok accounts and Metricool tracks their posting frequency, engagement rates, and top content. Available from the Starter plan. This alone justifies the $22/month for anyone doing content research.

Best-time-to-post heatmap

Based on your own historical engagement data, Metricool shows a colour-coded heatmap of which days and times your posts get the most reach. More specific than generic advice and more accurate than any other tool we've tested for this.

Content scheduler

Schedule posts, reels, carousels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, and Pinterest pins. Drag-and-drop calendar interface. Posts go out automatically without push notifications for most content types.

AI caption assistant

Generates caption suggestions from your media and target keyword. Similar to Later's offering — a starting point that needs editing, not a finished product. Useful for creators who get stuck on captions.

Exportable PDF reports

Generate branded analytics reports for any date range, including follower growth, top posts, engagement, and reach. Useful for client reporting or for tracking your own progress against monthly goals.

Our experience

We ran Metricool alongside Later on the Break Free accounts for 60 days — Later for scheduling, Metricool for analytics, to compare both side by side. At the end, we migrated most scheduling into Metricool to reduce the number of tools we pay for.

The competitor analysis was the first thing we used seriously. We added 4 accounts in our niche and tracked their posting frequency and engagement rates over the 60-day period. Two of them posted daily and had engagement rates under 1%. One posted 3 times per week and had engagement rates of 4.2%. This data directly influenced our decision to reduce posting frequency and focus on higher-quality content — and our own engagement rate improved as a result.

The best-time-to-post heatmap showed our peak engagement window was Tuesday–Thursday between 18:00 and 20:00, which matched our own intuition but was useful to see confirmed quantitatively. We shifted two posts per week into this window and saw a 22% improvement in average reach per post.

Scheduling across TikTok and Instagram worked reliably. One TikTok post failed to publish due to a video format error (too-long intro clip) — Metricool flagged the error and queued a retry. The post went live 12 minutes late. Not a major issue and Metricool's error reporting was clear about why it failed.

Honest opinion

Metricool is the tool I'd recommend to a creator who actually wants to improve their content strategy, not just automate posting. The competitor analysis alone separates it from every other tool in the sub-$30/month range. If you're posting content blindly and hoping something hits, Metricool gives you the data to stop guessing. The free plan is legitimately useful — I was on it for 6 weeks before upgrading, and even then only upgraded because I wanted to track more competitors. The design isn't as polished as Later's, and the grid preview is absent, but for analytics depth at this price point nothing comes close.

For solo creators and small brands, Metricool fills the gap between basic schedulers (Later, Buffer) and expensive enterprise platforms (Sprout Social, Hootsuite). The competitor tracking feature at $22/month is the clearest competitive advantage — Sprout Social charges $249/month for similar depth. If you want Instagram feed preview, Later is the better choice. If you want data, Metricool wins.

FAQ

Is Metricool free? +
Yes. The free plan includes 1 brand, basic scheduling (50 AI credits/month), and analytics for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and X. It's not time-limited — you can stay on it indefinitely. Paid plans start at $22/month and add competitor analysis, Pinterest, and unlimited scheduling.

Yes. TikTok scheduling and analytics are both supported. You can schedule videos to auto-post and view engagement data — views, watch time, follower growth — inside Metricool's dashboard.
How is Metricool different from Later? +
Metricool is stronger on analytics and competitor tracking. Later is stronger on Instagram visual grid planning and link-in-bio. Metricool's free plan is more generous. If data matters more to you than Instagram aesthetics, Metricool is the better pick. If you care most about how your Instagram grid looks, choose Later.
